Flight Systems started its target towing activities, back than mainly for the United Stated Air Forces in Europe, back in 1983. In 1988 the company also gained a contract for supporting the German Armed Forces and in 1991 the company moved out of the UK to their new location in the Northern part of Germany at Wittmund. At fliegerhorst Wittmund Jagdgeschawader 71 was based operating the F-4F Phantom II and Flight Systems became known as the third Squadron of Jagdgeschwader 71, the 'Dartstaffel 713'.
At the end of 2001, beginning of 2002 Flight Systems switched from flying four former Danish Air Force TF-100F Super Sabres to four former Israeli A-4N Skyhawks. The four aircraft (N431FS, N432FS, N434FS and N437FS) were stripped of radar, guns and other military hardware, target towing equipment installed and repainted in the well known white and blue colors. Lateron, in 2006, also two other A-4N's were bought, but unfortunately a few years later Flight Systems lost their contract to a Canadian firm and the familiar white and blue Scooters were flown back to the States.
